São Miguel das Missões

Impressive place, strong energy. Have been here for two nights so far (48h of partially torrential rain) but will stay on for a few days more. Please see separate post on my stay of 2 1/2 days with the indigenous Guaraní at their Aldeia 45 minutes from São Miguel das Missões.

Here a link for the curious: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Guarani#Jesuit_missions

Here some first impressions from the ruins which are a UNESCO world heritage site:

love is getting worse, impossible, with my time ticking away. people think that one must love and they hope for you to “fall” in love. i believe i am lucky not to love. it gives me a different look at the world and saves me from many troubles. so i do not need to be [...]

  • (Santa Cruz) – Villa Chapari – Cochabamba 16 2008f November 2008
A beautiful route which i undertook with a couple i met at the hotel in Villa Tunari – Patrizia and Thomas. A nice copule from Switzerland, nice change to have someone to talk to in the car for once. I hope I didn’t blast their ears Villa Chapari has a somewhat “tropical” feel to it. [...]

  • Villamontes – Santa Cruz 10 2008f November 2008

  • Filadelfia – Villamontes (Bolivia) 10 2008f November 2008
After a night in Menonite Filadelfia in the North of Paraguay (“Chaco”) y was ready to continue. It might be interesting to document the interaction of the Menonites with the indigenous groups, but this time it was just tourism. And there isn’t much to see, the Menonites here aren’t looking traditional, they are rather modern [...]

  • Asuncion – Filadelfia (Chaco) 10 2008f November 2008

A long and rainy drive through interesting countryside took me to Foz de Iguazu, where the famous, massive Iguazu waterfalls are. I checked them out (even though “only” from the Brazilian side) and also visted the Itaipu Binational dam, the biggest and most productive hidroelectric plant in the world (even when the Chines one is [...]

  • Guaraní Aldeia Keo Ju 30 2008f October 2008
When I visited São Miguel das Missões I went to visit the ruins, the dead rocks. And that’s what I found, even if some say that some special vibes can be felt around them… When I read up I found out that there is an Aldeia (community / reserve) of the Guaraní close by. I [...]
